What Body Products Should I Be Using?

When it comes to skincare, many often focus on the face and neck since it’s the first thing most people notice. Often, we neglect the skin on our bodies. With so many body care options, many often wonder, “Which body products should I be using?”

Like the skin on our face, the skin on our body has needs, too. It also requires proper cleansing, exfoliation, hydration, and sunscreen. Like our facial skincare, skin type and concern determine the skincare products we choose for the body.

For those with oily/acne-prone skin, products with glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and/or benzoyl peroxide can help keep oil production at bay and kill acne causing bacteria. Glytone® Exfoliating Body Wash (6.7 oz, $33) contains 8.8% glycolic acid to exfoliate dead skin cells and brighten the skin. skinfo® Clear Skin Aloe Cleanser (6.7 oz, $24) contains 10% benzoyl peroxide to help clear cystic and pustular acne. After cleansing, it may be beneficial to use a leave-on acne treatment with 2% salicylic acid to help heal and control acne on the back and shoulders. A good one to try is Glytone® Acne Back Spray (8 oz, $40).

Not only is exfoliation a good way to keep pores clean and prevent acne, but it also helps natural cell turnover. Various exfoliating products are available, from cleansers to leave-on treatments to moisturizers. Neocutis® Neo Body (6.76 oz, $120) is an all-in-one body cream that contains salicylic acid to exfoliate, hyaluronic acid to hydrate, and peptides to build collagen and firm the skin. skinfo® Soft and Smooth Body Lotion (6.7 oz, $42) contains 15% glycolic acid to exfoliate, soften and help retain skin’s moisture.

For dry skin, the best moisturizers contain emollients that reinforce the skin barrier and hold moisture in the skin. Some good ones to try are Vanicream™ Moisturizing Cream (16 oz, $22), skinfo® Vital Tea Body Balm (6 oz, $50), La Roche-Posay Lipikar Balm AP+ ($20, 13.52 oz) and Epionce® Medical Barrier Cream ($26, 2.5 oz) ($50, 8 oz). Some moisturizers provide additional benefits, such as alleviating itchiness and certain types of eczema. Avène® XeraCalm AD Lipid Replenishing Cream ($33, 13.5 oz) used in combination with Avène® XeraCalm AD Lipid Replenishing Cleansing Oil ($31, 400 ml) is ideal for dry, sensitive skin and skin prone to eczema. Epionce® Renewal Calming Cream (8 oz, $56) contains colloidal oatmeal to calm dry, itchy, and post-procedure skin. Another product that works well for skin prone to eczema, folliculitis, and acne is CLn® Body Wash ($35, 3.4 oz) ($45, 12 oz).

Mature and thin skin have additional needs and may benefit from anti-aging ingredients to hydrate, firm, promote collagen production, and strengthen the skin. skinfo® Strengthening Body Cream ($84, 7 oz) increases firmness and elasticity while soothing, calming, and protecting the skin. DefenAge® 10 Luxe Hand and Body Cream ($138, 4 oz) contains Age- Repair Defensins that wake dormant skin cells to create new skin, increase firmness, and improve the look of crepiness. Neocutis® Neo Body ($120, 6.76 oz) exfoliates, hydrates, and promotes collagen and elastin production. SkinMedica® Firm and Tone Lotion ($165, 6 oz) improves the appearance of crepey, sagging skin, and supports collagen and elastin resulting in firmer skin over time. Alastin® TransFORM ($205, 6 oz) diminishes the look of cellulite, crepiness, laxity, while strengthening skin and enhancing the results of body sculpting treatments.
